My personal system, and recommendation.
LVM, and backups. I have a hard drive dedicated to backups, and a
couple of rdiff-backup (similar to rsync with revisioning) cronjobs to
backup the important stuff. For example, my home directory (with lots
of excludes) and my photos. That way I can selectively backup the
important stuff, and have the ability to have lots of storage that I
can keep adding to.
