Hi all,
This is the re-run of this seminar, after the last attempt got
cancelled due to sickness. We'll be recording this, as some people
expressed an interest but couldn't make it last time.
On the subject of recordings, we have DV tapes of the last year or so
of seminars, and Adon's trying out transcoding on the first few. We'll
hopefully start getting them up on the website in the next month or
so.
Title: "LTSP for fun and profit"
When: Tuesday, 14th October 2008, 7:30pm - 9:00pm.
Where: 'Futuresphere', Christ Church Grammar School, Queenslea Drive, Claremont
Presenter: Adon Metcalfe
Adon Metcalfe will be presenting a talk on the Linux Terminal Server
Project, which lets you boot most diskless x86 boxes with ethernet
ports into a fantastic multiuser Ubuntu environment.
He'll discuss the feasibility of LTSP over wireless and how to connect
machines already running Ubuntu client to the LTSP server, to allow
the offload of processing on to the clients.
Adon Metcalfe is vice-president of PLUG, and works at the Department
of Environment and Conservation (Radio Communications Section). He is
also doing Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at UWA, and is
currently involved in deploying a satellite communications network for
use by Western Australian emergency services.
We will be ordering pizza for consumption when the talk is over, and
possibly adjourning to a nearby pub for general discussion and drinks
after the presentation. A gold-coin donation is requested to cover the
costs of the pizza.
As usual, visitors and friends are most welcome.
Information (including a map to the venue) is also available on the
PLUG website:
http://www.plug.org.au/events/seminar/.
See you there!
-Patrick
