Perth Linux Users' Group

June 2009 Seminar

Title: "Websites with Drupal"
When: Tuesday, 9th June 2009, 7:30pm - 9:00pm.
Where: 'Futuresphere', Christ Church Grammar School, Queenslea Drive, Claremont
Presenter: Peter Taekema

"I am planning to talk about web hosting using a Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (or LAMP) stack in general and Drupal in particular (see http://drupal.org). I'll attempt to provide a general overview of the steps involved in getting a website up and running quickly using Drupal. I should also be able to provide an overview of related stuff like DNS settings, domain registration/hosting, etc.

"For those that have the time and resources (a laptop running linux is fine), I'd be happy to run a mini workshop to help setup a basic website using drupal. Those interested will need to make sure the LAMP components (see above) are installed on their machine before we start. Downloading the latest drupal files (Drupal 6.12) will also help but I'll have them with me just in case.

"About Me? I've been using Linux in one form or another since 1994. For the last 12 years I was employed by the WA government (Agriculture/Health Departments) in I.T. and other technical roles. I have 9 years experience as a Network Administrator and general helpdesk geek. This involved work on up to 450 Windows PC's + some UNIX and Linux stuff along the way. In January this year I started my own business called "Great Southern Computer Services" and have (so far) managed to convince about a third of my customers to load Linux on (some of) their computers (dual boot with Windows in most cases)..... and I'm excited about the current level of interest in Linux in general."
